The Law on Collective Labour Agreements (in Dutch) has been enforced since 1927 in The Netherlands.

An employee that is not functioning properly, a distorted employment relationship or declining income. These are just a few of the causes that can make an employer consider dismissing employees. However, as an employer you cannot terminate an employment contract without cause.

Countries are trying to shield of the labour market from an intake of foreign employees. Countries do this by implementing an obligatory residence permit (Authorization for provisional stay) in The Netherlands and for working in The Netherlands (work permit).

In the Netherlands employers are obliged to announce to their employees at least one month before the end of the labour contract, whether or not their employment will be extended.
